Birthday cupcakes @longislandpulse

Happy Birthday! I turned 28 a couple of weeks ago. May 8, in case you want to remember for next year.

Birthdays always seem like a good time for some reflection. To think about the past year or two and set some goals for the future.

All and all it was good year. We moved to DC and then away from DC. And while I wasn’t crazy about DC it was a good year, full of new opportunities, lots of wedding planning and time with friends and family. This year there will be more wedding planning, a wedding and more time with friends and family now that we’re a bit closer. I have a new job (more on that later, the cupcakes in the picture we’re from them) and we’re living in a new town (more on that later too).

Still the years seem to go by so fast and so slow at the same time. A good friend of mine said she felt like her 20s lasted for decades and her 30s and 40s just flew by. Looking back at my early and mid 20s (I guess I’m in my late 20s now) I can see what she means. I feel like there is so much I’ve done and yet so much I still want to do. I wish I could slow time down a bit to just savor everything. That’s one of my goals for this year. To take the time to appreciate little moments more. And since I’m turning 30 in less than two years now, I guess it’s time to set some bigger goals. So, here they are in no particular order:

  • Print, frame and hang up some of our favorite photographs – we really need more wall art.
  • Spend a week unplugged
  • Revisit Hatteras – I really want to take Nathan and Vienna. We just have to find the time.
  • Learn to surf
  • Visit a new continent – I’m already planning a big trip for my 30th birthday.
  • Learn another language

I should probably add some practical things like figure out where we want to settle permanently and buy a house. And those are on my mind too, but those against savoring the now. So, to that end, I’m going to enjoy the next two years in this town, at this job and we’ll be trying to decide where we really want to settle within the next two years.
