about

Hello! I am a freelance digital journalist and social media editor. I have experience reporting on a variety of issues but some of my favorites include: local food, environmental trends, travel and small businesses. My work has appeared in national magazines and newspapers, including La Cucina Italiana, Condé Nast Traveler, The Huffington Post, The Latin Kitchen, Patch.com, HellaWella and Ecocentric.

I’m a Connecticut native and the original Editor of the Stonington-Mystic Patch, a hyper-local news website covering all things Stonington and Mystic. In March of 2013, I left Patch to focus on my freelance journalism career and now split my time between Connecticut and Washington, D.C. When I’m in D.C., I’m always missing the beach.

While Connecticut will always be my home state, being in D.C. is a bit like coming home too. I spent my college years in the District and have a B.A. in Political Science from The George Washington University. I also have a Master of Science in Online Journalism from Quinnipiac University‘s McMahon Communications Center.  I have been a been a reporter, an administrative assistant, a congressional intern, an editor, the manager of a bakery, a sister, a daughter, a godmother, a friend, a pet parent and a fiancé, all of which have contributed to my perspective as a journalist. In 2012, I was awarded the  Connecticut Agricultural Journalism Award for a story I wrote in 2011 and in March 2013, I won the Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce’s Business of the Month Award, for my work at Patch.

At Patch, I developed a passion for engaging with audiences through social media. As a member of the Patch.com social media committee, I created a company-wide best practices guide for using social media networks to reach a targeted audience and increase website traffic. I continue to use these skills providing social media consulting to a number of nonprofits and small businesses.

When not editing, reporting or tweeting, you will often find me exploring new places through their food markets, dreaming about the beach and attempting to wrangle my golden retriever into proper behavior.
