bree shirvell freelance writer

Hello!

I am a freelance writer and editorial consultant with a passion for telling stories about parenting, climate crisis solutions and the food system. A 2021 Madeleine Milburn mentee I’m currently working on a book on raising kids during the climate crisis.

I ask a lot of questions.

As a freelance writer and editor, the questions help me tell stories—of a young woman changing the way we think about fruits and vegetables; of what happens when the grandparents don’t visit; of how to help kids be climate-resilient and many more.

As an editorial consultant, the questions, based on observations and data, help me create engaging campaigns, whether it be for the launch of a new book or a new brand, a revamp of an existing website, social media or email newsletter strategy

My work has appeared in The New York TimesMartha Stewart Living, Teen Vogue,  PureWowEdibleLa Cucina ItalianaCondé Nast Traveler, The Huffington Post, The Latin Kitchen and VICE among others. I’ve created and managed content partnerships, newsletters and digital media strategy for Civil Eats, Edible, PBS NewsHour, Roots of Change, In Order to Succeed and other small businesses and nonprofits. I have a master’s degree in online media from Quinnipiac University and a bachelor’s degree in political science from George Washington University.

When not editing, reporting, or tweeting, you can often find me exploring new places through their food markets, dreaming about the beach and attempting to wrangle my golden into proper behavior.
